HOSPITALS TO SERVE MID WALES

ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY SERVICES FOR WELSHPOOL

There has been much discussion over the past few years on where A&E services might be located. To be clear there will be an A&E at Shrewsbury and Telford and a Minor Injuries Unit in Welshpool.

What is changing is how the 'critical care' is provided.  At present some of the critical care is provided at Shewsbury but most is provided by Wolverhampton, Stafford or Stoke.  The plan is to move more of these services back to either Shrewsbury or Telford.

The other change is that the name A&E will change.  There will be Urgent Care Centres at Shrewsbury and Telford (doing around 75% of what A&E does now) with an Emergency Care Centre (Critial Care) at one of the sites.

There will be a referendum held by Welshpool Town Council so that the residents and youth of Welshpool can give instructions to their Council on which option they should support.

The official consultation will start soon and the Welshpool Referendum will form part of that.
